Eyes of the World

Dawn breaks on the first week of Olympic festivities in my home town of Vancouver, British Columbia. Opening ceremonies are on Friday and this week is packed with pre-Olympics events such as the openings of various country houses. Last-minute preparations are being wrapped up and security is now in full force.

I sincerely hope my fellow Vancouverites/British Columbians can put aside their disagreements about whether hosting the Olympics was a good idea or not and now come together to welcome visitors and viewers from the four corners of our planet.

The world is arriving. The investment we have made in this global gathering is enormous. If it is to reap benefits for all British Columbians it will now depend on our ability to pull this off well, to be good hosts, and to present our best face to those who might see the advantages of investing in our beautiful city and province. Focussing on our own internal debates as a society will surely have the opposite effect.

It is our time to shine.

Inner Life

One of the amazing things about the endless, beautiful expressions of life is the way they carry their progeny as an integral part of their inherent beauty.

Another of those amazing things is the repetition of pattern at different scales.

I am a new communications technology pro by trade, an activist at heart. I care deeply about the health of my family and work hard to contribute to solutions to the great challenges of our day such as climate change and an out-of-control food system.
